Shalwar Kameez the Elegant Traditional Dress of Pakistan


Shalwar kameez is the traditional Pakistani dress. It is the most comfortable and elegant dress. Shalwar kameez lends a feminine look to a woman and is also liked in India and other asian countries as well. 


Shalwar kameem is available in a variety of fabrics, designs and sizes. The kameez is a long shirt which normally hits at the middle of the thigh or knee. But the length can be short or long depending on the fashion. The Shalwar is a loose pajama. The legs are often wide at the top and narrow at the ankle. The tight fitted pajama is called Churidar pajama. The ladies wear a dupatta (loose scarf) around the shoulders with shalwar kameez.


It is suitable for all weathers but the fabric used depends on the weather. Beautiful embroideries and cuts are used for the decoration of Shalwar kameez. I.e. resham work, cut work, beeds work, dakba work, stitch work and a lot more. 


Now-a-days there is stream of styles and designs in this dress. It looks good on every age group from teenagers to adults. This dress is widely available in all markets in all colors and has countless designs and there is no difficulty for size. It is known for grace and versatility.


New trends keep arriving like for instance there was fashion of short shirts with Patiala shalwars in the past days and now there is a trend of long shirts with trousers or churidars. There are bunch of styles and designs in shalwar kameez. The shalwar kameez is made in the following fabrics: Cotton, silk, linen, chiffon, georgette, lawn, velvet, khudder and jamawar.




Every fabric has its own look and gives a exceptional look to the outfit. Shalwar can be worn as formal/party wear, semi-formal wear, casual wear and can be wore as bridal wear as well.
